SPECIALIST PROSTHODONTIST – INNOVATOR AuDentes® IMPLANT BRIDGE TECHNIQUE

Dr Philip Tan is a registered specialist prosthodontist in Melbourne. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Melbourne before embarking on specialist prosthodontic training at the University of Iowa. Philip returned to Melbourne in 2006 and had since practiced from his Bayside Dental Specialists clinics in Cheltenham and Mornington.

Philip is a consultant prosthodontist at the Royal Children’s Hospital where he provides guidance and treatment for children with a variety of congenital dental disorders. His other roles have included being a reviewer various dental journals, a reviewer for the Dental Board of Australia and a prosthodontic post-graduate student examiner for the University of Melbourne.

Philip is a passionate exponent of digital dentistry and lectures throughout Australia and internationally on the topic. His expertise and attention to detail is well recognised throughout the international dental community with multinational dental manufacturers seeking his knowledge to help shape the future of prosthodontics around the globe. Philip is always willing to share his experience and receives much gratification from being part of the changing face of our dental environment. He believes that even those patients with significant dental issues should be able to enjoy a confident and healthy smile every day. The development of his patented AuDentes® implant bridge technique took several years and is a testament to his commitment to his patients and their unique dental needs.

DIGITAL TECHNICAL EXPERT – MANAGING DIRECTOR OMNI DENTAL CERAMICS

Lachlan Thompson completed his technical training in Perth, Western Australia as a dental technician focusing on Aesthetic and Implant Dentistry. Since completing his education, he continually challenges his knowledge and skills, as he collaborates with leaders in digital technology throughout the world. Lachlan opened his commercial laboratory Omni Dental in 2010 and has successfully implemented multi-faceted CAD/CAM workflows into the laboratory’s production lines. With laboratories located in Perth and Melbourne, Lachlan devotes much of his time to innovation, team mentoring and quality control at both centres. Lachlan lectures at the University of Western Australia teaching dental students about digital workflows in laboratories and is a sought after workshop presenter focusing on the changing face of digital dentistry and its impact on device construction. Lachlan has a keen interest in the implementation of digital dentistry into both clinical and laboratory workflows and he continues to take a hands-on approach to the significant changes we see in the construction of dental devices in Australia.

DR JANICE KAN

SPECIALIST PROSTHODONTIST – CENTRE FOR PROSTHODONTICS

Dr Janice Kan is an Australian board-certified prosthodontist. She received her Bachelor of Dental Science degree with honours from the University of Western Australia in 2001 and was awarded the Wyn Needham Memorial Prize for being the most outstanding student. In 2007, she received commendations with the completion of the Primary Examinations of The Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. Upon her graduation from the three years full time Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Prosthodontics) degree at the University of Melbourne, she returned to Perth and commenced Centre for Prosthodontics in 2011.

She is currently the Past President of The Academy of Australian and New Zealand Prosthodontists (AANZP) and has been heavily involved with this peak body of speciality prosthodontics in the last four years. In 2014, she founded and is a Past President of Women in Dentistry Society (WA). She is a fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI), International College of Dentists (ICD) and the Academy of Dentistry International (ADI). In 2017, she was appointed as an Adjunct Senior Clinical Lecturer by the University of Western Australia (UWA).

With keen interest in dental implant biomechanics, Dr Kan has given over a hundred presentations in the past seven years, including her clinical cases and academic research at various local, national and international dental events. Dr Kan has published in a respected international dental journal and clinical textbook, including the Clinical Oral Implants Research and ITI Treatment Guide. Dr Kan is hoping to undertake a PhD (Wireless Strain Gauge for Implant Dentistry) in the future; in collaboration with Melbourne Dental School, Melbourne Materials Institute, School of Physics and Engineering at the University of Melbourne.

Dr Kan has a special interest in the prosthodontic management of worn dentition, aesthetic challenges, dental implant reconstructions and complex multidisciplinary cases.


DR ARMAND PUTRA

SPECIALIST PROSTHODONTIST – CENTRE FOR PROSTHODONTICS

Dr Armand Putra completed his undergraduate training in 2010 at the University of Queensland, graduating with a Bachelor of Dental Science degree. In 2016, Dr Putra completed a 3-year full time Graduate Certificate Training in Prosthodontics and a Master Science in Dentistry from the University of Washington, Seattle. Following his residency, Dr Putra further focused on implant surgery and complex implant rehabilitation through a 1-year full time Fellowship in Implant Dentistry under the world renowned implantologist, Professor Joseph Kan at Loma Linda University, California. Through rigorous examination, Dr Putra received US certification by the American Board of Prosthodontics and American National Board of Dental Laboratory Technology (Dental Technician) in 2017.

With a keen interest in academic research in dental material science and prosthodontic techniques, Dr Putra has remained active in giving presentations both locally and internationally. Amongst them, his presentation titled ‘A Technique to Correct Anterior-Posterior Tooth Discrepancy for a Maxillary Immediate Denture’ was awarded by the American College of Prosthodontists in 2016. Furthermore, his research titled ‘Effect of Hydrothermal Treatment on Light Transmission of Translucent Zirconia’ was awarded the prestigious Tylmann Research Competition in 2016. His latest international achievement sees his case presentation on Zerodonto becoming a finalist case for the European Federation Periodontology perio-contest prize. Dr Putra has published in various respected international dental journals, including the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry and the Journal of Prosthodontics.

Dr Putra has joined the team at Centre for Prosthodontics as an associate in 2018, with a special interest in the management of aesthetically demanding and complex multidisciplinary cases.
